Intro to Slide Settings in the Campaign Slide Editor
In this article, we will review How to Edit Slide Settings and best practices when it comes to naming your Slide and how long it should be in playback for.
Slide Settings is one of the last pieces to complete when you finish working on your Slide. It allows you to Activate and Deactivate a Slide, Name the Slide, set the Duration, and more based on Configuration.
Activation Button
The Activation Button is used to determine if an individual Slide will be in playback, provided that the Campaign is scheduled to a Channel.
To change from Active to Inactive, or vice versa, just click the button.
You'll also see a shortcut Activation Button that lives outside of Slide Settings, on the Toolbar, marked on the examples below in the bottom right corner.
When a Slide is labelled as Inactive, which is the default option for all new slides, the Slide WILL NOT be in playback if the Campaign was scheduled in a Channel.
When a Slide is labelled as Active, the Slide WILL be in playback if the Campaign was scheduled in a Channel.
Slide Name
The Slide Name is the descriptive name that you'll give to your Slide. This will help differentiate the Slide from others that will be added in the Campaign. The Slide List appears on the left side of the Campaign Slide Editor page.
As a recommendation, it's better to be detailed when choosing a name, as vagueness can cause confusion for yourself or others when reviewing the information. Also, full Slide Names should be 30 characters or less, to keep things concise and easily readable.
Duration
The Duration is the length at which the Slide will remain in playback before moving to the next Slide. The Duration is shown using Minutes and Seconds.
When determining the Duration of the Slide, you'll want to take into account the amount of Assets on the Slide. What is an Asset? An Asset is Media, Text, or any information that can be understood as an individual message.
Using the Slide below as an example, we are able to count three Assets - denoted by the yellow boxes: The Primary Asset (The Image and the Welcome Caption), The Weather, Date, and Time Sidebar, and the scrolling RSS Ticker.
The general rule is 4 to 8 seconds per Asset, based on how much information there is to process. Using the example, because our Slide is not using that much information we would lean towards 4 seconds per Asset.
3 Assets x 4 seconds per Asset = 12 seconds for Duration
Knowing this, it's best to keep any Slide under 30 seconds for Duration. If the Assets are providing too much information, you'll either need to make your message more concise or remove Assets from the Slide.
NOTE: The default Duration is 30 seconds; the default can be adjusted when first Creating a Campaign under the Advanced Settings section.
Adding a Video to a Slide will automatically set the Duration to the length of the Video. The Duration can not be adjusted to any other length than what is given by the Video.
More Options
Clicking on the Click here for More Options link will bring up additional Slide Settings that aren't commonly used with a standard slide.
Setting a Slide Activation/Deactivation Date and Time allows you to schedule a time range for the individual Slide. The Campaign will still need to be scheduled to a Channel, but allows for more freedom when it comes to scheduling specific Slides. For the Slide Activation/Deactivation Date and Time to properly display in playback, the Slide needs to be set to Active.
Slide Notes is a standard note field used to add details about the Slide that would not normally be referenced.
Grid Options allow you to choose different layouts if you use the Design Grid feature.
NOTE: Slide Tags is a deprecated field.
