BrightSign Player Requirements
The first step to configuring your Spectrio BrightSign Player is to ensure the necessary hardware connections are in place. This includes a power adapter, HDMI cable, and an Ethernet connection.
- A network connection that conforms to our network topology
- An active Spectrio MediaBridge installed onto your network is required for content to synchronize successfully
- Access to your CommandCenterHD account from a computer
- Access to the network where the player will be connected
- The provided SD card that you will use for the BrightSign player
If you did not purchase the BrightSign Player from Spectrio directly, please proceed to the “Loading The Spectrio Application onto SD Card” section of this article.
BrightSign First Time Setup
- Before powering on your BrightSign playerInsert the loaded SD card into the BrightSign player.If you did not purchase the BrightSign Player from Spectrio directly, please proceed to the “Loading The Spectrio Application onto SD Card” section of this document.
- Connect the device to your display and power ON using the clicker that was provided.
Be sure you set the display’s source to HDMI.
If your device does not have cloud access (443) for the initial setup you’ll want to follow the below steps first. Otherwise jump ahead to number 8.
Please note that for devices using an IWWS bridge, cloud access (443) is required.
1. In the address bar, enter the address as follows IP:8080
2. Login to the BrightSign interface using the following credentials:

- Username: admin
- Password: default
-
If logging in to the machine for the first time, you may have to enter the model number as the password example:
- Username: admin
- Password: LS425
You will arrive at the page shown below:
5. Click on the blue IW Setup tab furthest to the right of the screen.
6. Configure the required Network Information.
7. Click Save and Reboot at the bottom of the screen and the player will automatically reboot.
8. Once the Spectrio player App loads, you will see an activation code on the screen:
9. Login to your CommandCenterHD account.
10. On your CommandCenterHD Dashboard hover over the icon in the upper right and click Devices.
11. From the Device Manager screen, click Authorize Smart Device.
12. Enter the authorization code from your player display and then click on the Authorize button.
13. A new window will pop up prompting you to fill out information for this player. Be sure to fill out the required fields listed below:
- Player Name – Choose a name to identify this player.
- Player Status – Active status will allow the player to sync content.
- Format – Choose your screen orientation.
- Player Channel – Choose the content Channel you would like this player to display.
- Connect Mode – Choose if this player will use a MediaBridge or the Cloud to sync content.
- Location – Enter this player’s location and click on the “Get Location” button.
14. It will then take 5-10 minutes to register and then begin to download the necessary files for playback. Once these are downloaded, you will see content playback on the screen.
15. To check the status of your BrightSign player, find it in the list of devices on the “Manage Devices” screen in CommandCenterHD. Under the “Status” column, you will see an image of a yellow question mark
next to each active player. If you simply click on the question mark next to your player, you will be able to see if your player has made it online or if an error has occurred in the process.
Loading The Spectrio Application onto SD Card
- Whether you are using an SD card or a Flash Card for your new BrightSign player, you will first need to make sure that you load the proper content onto it.
- If you are using an SD card for your player, simply remove it from its packaging and insert the card via the SD card slot on your laptop or PC.
- After it is inserted, you should be alerted with either a sound or just an added icon/message at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. The message will merely be notifying you that it recognizes the external drive.
- To locate where the drive is, run a search and type in “My Computer”.
- Once here, you will be able to see the inserted drive as well as all your other files and downloads, etc.
- Under the “Devices and Drives” section, you should see the removable disk that you inserted (SDHC). Once you find it, double click to open the drive and access its content.
Reformatting the SD Card
- To format the SD card, you need to connect the SD card to a PC,
- Select ‘Format’ after right clicking on the SD drive.
- Once the Format window appears, select ‘Restore Device Defaults and Start’. This will format the drive.
- The drive should now be empty.
- You can now add the IW software or any other platform that supports Brightsign.
- Once this is added to the drive, eject and power down the BrightSign machine.
- Return the SD card to the BrightSign machine and start the machine.
- You should see a new PIN for IW or instructions on what to do next if adding to another platform.
7. This will take you to a new screen which is shown below. As you can see, there are currently no files on this SD card.
8. Minimize this screen and open up the web browser of your choice. This is where you are going to go to download the content necessary for the new BrightSign player.
9. Paste the following link in your browser and it will immediately begin to download the associated zip file. The link is: https://cchdrsrc.channelshd.com/brightsign/brightsignSetup.zip
10. Locate the zip file once it has finished downloading. The name of the downloaded folder should be showing up as BrightSignSetUp. You can find this folder alongside any other downloaded content in the “Downloads” section of your computer. You can run a search if you are unsure where this folder is located.
11. Double click on the BrightSignPlayerSetUp Folder. The contents you should see are below:
12. Use “Ctrl & C” to copy both the autorun.brs file and “iw” zip file. You may then minimize this screen or keep it open if you want to drag and drop the two files into the “SDHC” external box.
13. If you have moved the files successfully, your screen should show both the “iw” zip file and the “autorun.brs” file on the SDHC card on the (F:) drive.
14. Lastly, exit out of the above screen and eject your SDHC card from your computer. It is now ready to be used with your BrightSign player.
Resetting The BrightSign Player
- Using a different device, navigate to the IP address associated with the player.
- Login to the BrightSign interface using the following credentials:Username = adminPassword = default
- Click on the blue IW Setup tab furthest to the right of the screen
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Reset button.
Please Note: This option will reset the player and remove all configuration and content.
6. This will bring you to a new screen that indicates your player is currently being rebooted.
7. Once the player has finished rebooting, you will be directed back to the login page below.
8. After this, your player should successfully be reset and you can start back at the first time setup instructions.
Legacy BrightSign First Time Setup (HD 220, 1020)
Legacy BrightSign Pre-Setup Notes and Requirements
- SD card (4+ GB recommended)
- BrightSign Player (HD 1020 or HD 220)
- Ethernet cable
- Windows PC or Laptop with SD card reader and BrightAuthor for legacy players

Legacy BrightSign Setup
- Using the PC, format the SD card as FAT32. https://gopro.com/support/articles/sd-card-reformat-on-a-mac-computer
- Open BrightAuthor and go to Tools-> Setup BrightSign Unit.
3. Verify that “Enable diagnostic web server” is checked, and set a password.
4. Click Advanced Network Setup
5. Under the Wired tab, in the Connection Settings enter the IP/subnet/gateway/DNS.
6. Back on the main BrightSign Unit Setup screen, Verify that Standalone is selected.
7. Click Create Setup Files and choose top level of the SD card.
8. Insert the card into the player and turn it on. You will see a splash screen, followed by “Standalone Setup is complete- you may now remove the card”.
9. Insert the card into the PC, reformat it, and put it back into the player. Turn it back on; it will remain at the splash screen.
10. On the PC, navigate to the player’s IP address. Log in as user: admin and the password provided in the BrightAuthor setup. Verify that these credentials work properly.
11. Login to your CommandCenterHD account.
12. On your CommandCenterHD Dashboard hover over the gear icon in the upper right and click Devices.
13. From the Device Manager screen click on the + icon next to Digital Signage Players to add a new player.
14. Player Model is “Legacy BrightSign” in the model drop down.
15. Under Accounts, make sure the password matches the players.
16. Enter all required player details and click on the Save button
17. The initial sync may take up to 45 minutes. After the sync completes, the player will reboot and begin playing content.
18. The player will reboot every time content is changed in any way.
For this reason, weather is not supported as it would reboot every time any of the temperatures/conditions change.
Media Bridge Reset
The player and the Media Bridge will have their own Web UIs for a reset. If using a Local MB, you can access the Media Bridge UI (similar to the player UI) and reset it there. If you are using an IWWS relay, please contact our team at videosupport@spectrio.com.
Resetting the Brightsign to its factory settings can be done two ways.
- By entering BrightSign IP:8080 in the browser. On this page, click ‘Reset’. This will erase everything and set it back to the IW pin where it can be added to another account. Only after formatting the SD card, can the machine be added to another Platform.
- You can also click on the ‘Control’ tab and select ‘Factory Reset’. This will also remove the account details and take the user back to the PIN screen.
